Best specs for PC & Muvizu Pro ???

Post by Not_Coen »

This week I'll be specifying what I want for a new PC setup.
I have a list of the recommended specs for Muvizu - but these date back about 5 years.

For Muvizu Pro - what would be the best specs?
Looking at the list I originally created, and tweaking it where I understand what might be relevant, I've got this so far.
Any thoughts, additions, suggestions or bits I've overlooked?

Windows 10 - 64bit
i5 minimum - Quad core
Memory - minimum 8gb RAM, preferably more
Graphics must support Shader 3.0 Model with minimum of 1gb RAM
Direct X - latest version
HD - 500gb
SSD - 500gb
Sound - Direct X compatible. Surround Sound 5.1 compatible.

Can anyone suggest graphics cards they use?
Do I actually need a HD or can modern systems work using just one or two SSDs? - Does Muvizu need a HD?

Thanks for any responses. I'm quite OK using computers - but the actual specifying of technical innards isn't my area of expertise.

You don't necessarily need a HDD, but remember video files are quite large so you may appreciate extra storage. In terms of graphics, anything high-end from the last few years will do. So RX400 or RX500 series, or GTX900 series or GTX1000 series.

Many thanks Doc.

I'm visiting my local computer place tomorrow to discuss and then order the new computer.
I gave them that list of initial thoughts and their specialist builder came back with these suggestions as the basis for our chat ...

Intel Core I5 7th Gen CPU
500gb SSD + 1tb HDD
16gb RAM DDR4
NVIDIA GTX 1060 4gb DDR5
Creative 5.1 sound card
Windows 10
------------------ PLUS ------------------
Samsung 24" monitor
Logitech Wireless keyboard & mouse
WiFi dongle
------ To be decided tomorrow ------
Speakers
CD/DVD RRW drive(s) ... I ususally like having two.

Thanks again for your thoughts.

That should run Muvizu very well, with simple scenes rendering in real time (and you will notice a big speed increase in everyday use if you haven't use an SSD before). It's unusual to use DVDs these days, so I find it interesting that you would like any DVD drives, let alone two.

However, some words of caution: I'm not sure what the lifespan of Muvizu will be. It's running on pretty old software and is owned by a Chinese company who break the licencing system for months at a time. If you decide to move to other animation software in the future, this computer should continue to be pretty fast when working with them.

Thanks Doc.

Must admit I am more than a tad cautious about whether Muvizu Pro registration will work when I install it on the new machine ... I kept getting email after email from them asking if there were problems, or they kept sending urls for (or attaching) new download packages. Those seem to have stopped now after I sent several "What on earth is going on" responses.

As for 'other animation software' .... not sure what that could be. I've done a fair bit of searching and nothing else really appeals or seems to fit with my skills and understanding, not without returning to 2D. Muvizu was pretty unique and as far as I can tell, it still is so it will be a real shame if the new Chinese company just lets it die away.

As for DVD ... I'm old school in many ways but I also do a lot of audio work and like to have both flash memory and hard copies of work.

Thanks again.
